John McDaniel

John McDaniel is a wade fishing guide specializing in the challenging Harriman Ranch. John was formally the Head of the Anthropology department at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. He currently lives in Manhattan, Montana, with his wife Nell - with the exception of the four months his Airstream is parked on the Henry’s Fork. McDaniel has fished full summers on the Ranch for over 30 years and guided it since 1999. John is a widely published outdoorsman with several articles in Fly Fisherman magazine. His acclaimed book Fly Fishing the Harriman Ranch of the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River: Lessons Learned and Friends Made Sight Fishing to Selective Trout is in its second printing, and his comprehensive map of the Ranch can be found in the vest of every hard-core Ranch regular.
