News and Fishing Reports
Box Canyon: The "Box" continues to produce great fishing day after day after day. Granted, this is not the first choice for a serious dry fly fisherman. However, if you are an avid nymph fisherman, or you don't mind fishing two
fly rigs under a strike indicator, this is the place for you. I really don't think we have had a bad day in the "Box' for two weeks or more. We suggest a combination of black, brown, or coffee & black rubberlegs sizes #4 or #6 with a size #14 or #16 beadhead red or black Krystal Zebra Midge, brown standard Zebra Midge, Flashback PT or Prince Nymph. There are still a few big Golden Stones around and a Golden Stone adult imitation with any of the already mentioned beadhead nymphs used as a trailer can and will produce fish, although most of the fish will be taken on the trailing nymph pattern.
Last Chance/Railroad Ranch: Fishing in this section of the river can best be described as inconsistently good. By that I mean, there have been some very nice rainbows hooked and lost and hooked and landed -- and by very nice, I mean fish in the 18 to 25 inch category. But, I can't point to any one area that has been consistently productive. One day the best reports come from the Gravel Pit area , the next day the Islands, and the day after that the Third
Channel or Bonefish Flats. You just have to get out there and walk the river and try to find the most productive spot on that given day. We have a number of different hatches going on up and down this section of the river. We have PMD's, Green Drakes, a few Brown Drakes, Callibaetis, Yellow Sallies; at least two different kinds of Caddis, and there are still quite a few black ants around. Any of the Harrop flies tied to imitate these insects are sure bets to peek interest from the selective Railroad Ranch rainbows.
Riverside to Warm River: Fishing in this isolated part of the Henry's Fork has been
very good to excellent for those individuals willing to put in a little effort to get to the water. There are Golden Stones, Yellow Sallies, PMDs, and Caddis all hatching in this part of the river and the presence of these hatches have the fish on the feed. Dry flies and nymphs are both producing well here. Some of our favorite patterns are the Hedgehog and Designated Hitter Golden Stone imitations, Rollin Stone and Yeager's Yellow Sallie imitations, PMD Sparkle Duns, EZ Caddis, Royal and Lime Trudes for dry flies; beadhead PT's, Prince's, King Prince's, Copper John's, and size #8 rubber leggs for nymphs. As always, a well presented Woolly Bugger will take fish just about anytime in this section of the river.
Warm River to Ashton: Like the Box Canyon, this section of the river, has been consistently productive. We just haven't had a bad day down here for two weeks or more. Dry flies, nymphs and streamers are all producing fish.

Ashton to St. Anthony: This has been the most exciting part of the river to be fishing over the past several days. The cause for all of the excitement has been the arrival of the Gray Drakes. We have not had much of a Gray Drake hatch the past several years due to lower than average stream flows. There are also PMDs, Flavs, Caddis and Yellow Sallies hatching on this portion of the Henry's Fork. The fish have been fished over a little bit so be prepared to change flies a few times until you find that pattern that they will take.
