Henry’s Fork Foundation seeks new Executive Director. Steve Trafton moves to Coldwater Conservation Organization with Trout Unlimited
ASHTON, Idaho (March 24, 2011) The Henry’s Fork Foundation today announced it is seeking a new executive director to replace Steve Trafton who recently resigned to take the position of Managing Director of Trout Unlimited’s Coldwater Conservation Fund starting May 2. Steve Trafton has served as Executive Director of the Henry’s Fork Foundation since 2002.
“It will be a real challenge to replace Steve Trafton,” said Layne Hepworth, Chairman of the Board of the Henry’s Fork Foundation. “Steve took this river conservation organization at its lowest point with an underfunded staff and a dwindling membership base and turned the organization around, hiring a tremendously talented staff, doubling the annual operating budget and revitalizing the membership of the organization. There is no doubt Steve will be missed not only as the Executive Director of the Henry’s Fork Foundation but by the entire community. He has been an extraordinary citizen.”
Today, under Trafton’s leadership the Henry’s Fork Foundation is well known for its efforts to improve the entire watershed of the Henry’s Fork River. The Foundation has made enormous improvements in the fishery through the use of its multiple scientific and research efforts in the Box Canyon stretch and in Harriman State Park. Trafton led the efforts and leaves the Foundation with a solid drought management planning process in cooperation with the local irrigation community and the Bureau of Reclamation. The Foundation campaigned and has guaranteed permanent protection of the angler access site at Stone Bridge on the lower Henry’s Fork and under Trafton’s leadership the reputation of the Henry’s Fork Foundation has become one of the leading conservation voices not just for the watershed but in the West.
